A comprehensive study of the number of jewelry stores in the US shows that this figure is set to fall by 1.3% in 2023, to 61,892. The annual decline is the smallest in three years and follows a 1.6% decrease in 2022, when the number dropped from 63,751 to 62,722.
The number of stores in 2023 is also the lowest in more than 10 years, as the number of jewelry stores in the US has generally been falling.

How many jewelry stores are there in the United States: 2013–2021
A closer look at the market over the past decade shows fluctuations in the number of jewelry stores in the US. In 2013, there were 74,207 stores. This rose by 3.2% in 2014, the largest annual increase between 2013 and 2023, to 76,562. Another year of growth followed in 2015, as the number of jewelry stores in the US hit 76,975, the highest in the analysis period between 2013 and 2023.
However, the market was unable to sustain this growth. Two consecutive years of declines of around 5% saw the number of jewelry stores in the US slump to 69,381 by 2017. A marginal increase of 0.5% to 69,738 stores in 2018 brought some respite to the shrinking market, only for the number to fall again in 2019, by 3.6%, to 67,193.
In 2020, the number of jewelry stores rose by 2.9%, which was followed immediately by a 7.8% plunge in 2021, the largest annual decrease between 2013 and 2023.
